Lao referees gear up to adjudicate at world youth table tennis meet
Lao referees are brushing up on the finer points of table tennis rules in preparation for the World Table Tennis Youth Contender event taking place in Vientiane from September 20-23.
After attending a course for coaches in table tennis conducted by Mr Korakij Sermkijseree from Thailand from July 23-31, they are now ready to take on refereeing responsibilities at the youth table tennis tournament later this month.
They also gained useful competition experience at the Asian Junior Cadet and Table Tennis Championships held in Vientiane last September.
The Lao Table Tennis Federation also invited a member of the International Table Tennis Federation, Ms Chee Shin Lian, to train 17 Lao referees in international match adjudication.
The youth table tennis tournament will be attended by more than 200 players, trainers, referees and government officials from numerous countries. Players will compete in the male and female singles and mixed doubles events in the U-11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 age groups.
Lao and Chinese companies are providing support for the tournament and the equipment to be used is being paid for by two Chinese companies.
