Lao volleyball federation to create professional league

The Lao Volleyball Federation plans to raise the level of the game in Laos and to create a professional volleyball league in Vientiane from 2024 to 2028.
The federation will organise competitions and hold international events, with the aim of being eligible for inclusion in National Federation Category II, under the auspices of the International Volleyball Federation.
In the past, the federation has organised the Federation’s President’s Cup in Vientiane and volleyball was included in the National Games hosted by Xieng Khuang province last December.
The federation held a meeting at the National Olympic Committee of Laos’ office last week to summarise its recent work and announce preparations for the development of volleyball.
The federation’s President, Mr Chansamone Phongchantha, said a development strategy is being planned for the years 2024 to 2028.
The Army Volleyball Club’s men’s and women’s teams are strong contenders at the national level and have competed in national and international events in the past.
The Army teams will also have an opportunity to compete in the Volleyball League next year.
The Army’s women’s team won a gold medal at the National Games in Xieng Khuang province last year, while the men’s team took the silver medal.
The Lao Volleyball Federation will prepare teams to compete in beach volleyball at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand in 2025 and at the South-East Asian Games in 2027.
