Snapping up culture as lenses focus on central Thailand

Some 30 photographers from countries including Laos last week took part in a photography project to learn more, exchange understanding and promote the intangible cultural heritage of Thailand’s central provinces.
Central Thailand Intangible Culture Heritage Photography 2018 was held from July 6-10.
Photographers from Egypt, China, Malaysia, Laos and Singapore were invited to participate in the project by Thailand’s Ministry of Culture’s Cultural Promotion.

This was the third time to hold such events after focusing on Thailand’s north and south in previous years, Thai National Artist and event co-organiser Mr Waranun Chutchawantipakorn told the opening. This year the primary objective of the project was to promote intangible cultural heritage, ways of life and values of the central Thai provinces.
Each year the organiser invites artists from local and regional countries to participate in the project to exchange artistic photography skill, learn and capture the intangible cultural heritage of Thailand. This year the project focused on the central region promote the values of cultural heritage in Thailand’s Bangkok, Samutprakan, Ayutthaya, Singburi, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Uthaithani, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, and Kanchanaburi.
The works from this project will be collected in a database to promote the country’s culture in various ways including exhibitions of photographs that demonstrate the unique values of the country’s culture and heritage.
Results of the project will soon be published in a book “The Art of Thai Cultural Heritage”.
