Myanmar, Bangladesh agree to accommodate fleeing Myanmar citizens

NAYPYITAW (Eleven) -- Myanmar and Bangladesh already agreed to accommodate up to Myanmar citizens arriving in Bangladesh and to stop at once the inflow of Myanmar citizens to Bangladesh, says Tin Myint, permanent secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs at the Myanmar-Bangladesh Home Affairs ministerial-level meeting.

Myanmar-Bangladesh Home Affairs ministerial-level meeting being held in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

The meeting laid down 10 agreements including law enforcement in the border area, implementation of 1980 border enactment, regional level meetings every three months, central level meetings annually, and the elimination of illegal dealing drugs.
“Among the 10 agreements, number 7 is ‘to stop at once inflow of Myanmar citizenss to Bangladesh’ and ‘Regional security will be controlled in Rakhine State aiming for relocation of Myanmar citizenships who are arriving in Bangladesh’.
“Number 8 is ‘to form joint working committee in accordance with November, 2017 agreement for supervisory of resettlement and to implement bilateral agreement between Myanmar and Bangladesh concerning re-acceptance of fleeing Bengalis from Rakhine State’,” said Tin Myint.
Number 9 is exchange of information between the two countries, designation of liaison officers and number 10 is to boost in goodwill visits for building of trust among two countries.
