The minister was responding to a November 8 question about the matter from MP Maung Kyaw Zan, representing Rakhine State Constituency No 9.
The Union Minister told the upper house of parliament said that a nominating committee, subcommittee and other organisations have been at work since late May to submit an application to Unesco regarding cultural heritage sites in MraukU Township in Rakhine State.
There is a need for systematic conservation of cultural heritage sites in the state, and a team of expert advisors and historians is being formed, said the minister. Cooperation between international organisations, local residents and the state government is needed to prepare the nomination submission, which will be submitted at Unesco’s conference in June 2018.
On August 21 this year, various officials and experts met at the MraukU District General Administration Department to discuss creation of a draft nomination dossier.
