China to establish Belt and Road media centre

Gansu province, China: The People's Daily will set up a media centre to enhance cooperation among domestic and international media concerning the Belt and Road Initiative.

The People's Daily is an organ of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. It is also the largest and most influential newspaper in the country and published nationwide on a daily basis.

The opening ceremony of the 2017 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road in Gansu province, China.

President of the People's Daily, Mr Yang Zhenwu, announced the project at the start of the 2017 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road held in Dunhuang, Gansu province, on Tuesday.

The People's Daily hosted the first Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road in 2014. This year the event is attended by over 300 media outlets from 127 countries and international organisations.

“The media centre to boost Belt and Road cooperation will be set up by the People's Daily ,” President Yang said.

The People's Daily will take six specific steps to promote media cooperation.

The newspaper will issue a blue paper on Belt and Road media cooperation, launch an international research centre, start a Belt and Road media cooperation centre and a Belt and Road joint interview mechanism, establish a cooperation union for Belt and Road regional cooperation, set up a culture research institute, and publish an English version of the book series on the Silk Road.

In 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed jointly creating the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, opening up more opportunities for co-construction and co-sharing, as well as mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation.

The Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in May promoted collaborations featuring a wider scope, a greater variety of fields, and a higher standard among participating countries.

The Belt and Road Initiative has created a new concept for global governance, broadened room for international cooperation, and set a model in which different civilisations can learn from each other.

The forum has had a strong magnetic effect, as it has been continuously growing over the past four years. Today it is the most representative and influential global media gathering among its kind held by mainstream Chinese media.

On the same day, an opening ceremony was held for the international study centre of the People's Daily . This will facilitate discussion sessions on global media cooperation with new visions and new missions, new concepts and technology, and the impacts of the Belt and Road Initiative on the global economy, including new dynamics and opportuni ties.
