Exhibition marks 68th Lao Front for National Development Day and Mass Media and Publishing Day

An exhibition featuring a variety of items and events to mark the 68th Lao Front for National Development Day and Mass Media and Publishing Day is taking place at Lao-ITECC in Vientiane.
The event features 35 booths displaying One District, One Product goods and other locally made products including handicrafts, food and drinks from Vientiane and the provinces of Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Xieng Khuang, Huaphan and Saravan. There are also five stalls displaying photos, books and printed material.

Activities include stage shows, a donation drive for the Attapeu flood victims, a stationery fair for schoolchildren, and a sports demonstration. Vice President of the Lao Front for National Development and of the organising committee, Mr Chanthavong Seneamatmonty, gave an opening speech.
He said the exhibition had been organised to mark the 68th Lao Front for National Construction Day and Mass Media and Publishing Day, which both occur on August 13. The event would also raise money for flood victims around the country, especially in Sanamxay district, Attapeu province.
The exhibition has been organised by Samakom Gounka Lao in cooperation with the Lao Front for National Development and will run until August 12.
The public is invited to visit the exhibition, browse the products on display and take part in activities.
The opening ceremony took place on Tuesday. Present on the occasion were President of the Lao Front for National Development, Dr Xaysomphone Phomvihane, ministers, officials, religious leaders, the organising committee, and sponsors.
Before the opening, donations from companies and individuals for flood victims were handed over to Dr Xaysomphone.
The first Lao Front for National Development Day and Mass Media and Publishing Day was marked on August 13, 1950.
The Lao Front is the face of national unity and socio-political relations. It was established to represent the political, socio-political, and personal wishes of all Lao people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or age.
The Front has evolved in three stages: the Lao Front of Liberty, Lao Front of Patriots, and now as the Lao Front for National Development. The Front was instrumental in mobilising people to build revolutionary strongholds and expanding the revolutionary movement in both the political arena and the armed forces.
Director General of the  Propaganda Department of the LFND, Mr Keochaleun Xiayingyang, said that since its establishment, the Front has actively worked to serve the nation and its people.
“In the past, the Front worked to unite people and lead them to fight for the nation and national liberation. Today, the LFND works to unite people for the country’s protection and development as well as promote solidarity and peace among the general public,” he said.
“Meanwhile, the Mass Media and Publishing sector is an import voice to serve the party, government and public through the distribution of information. It works actively to circulate the policies of the Party and government and provide general information to the public.”
“Both the LFND and the Mass Media and Publishing sector have continuously improved and developed in all aspects and are now more modern in their outlook than before,” Mr Keochaleun said.
